Keep on Dancing

It’s a good day to be alive
Free to dance upon these rocky shores
I celebrate and soar
I keep coming back for more.

With wind and rain
Pushing raging seas
Against my feet
I keep dancing, refusing to retreat.

With no regrets, no tears or lies
I’ll guide toward blue skies
Until a rainbow finds me.

With red sands beneath my salted wounds
I keep on dancing
Like a moonlit silhouette
I’ll keep on dancing.

Like the stars that shine at night
I’ll keep on Dancing
Until the Lord turns off my light
I’ll keep on dancing….just for you

Sunday June 14  Ballroom Social JUNE 14 Madeleine’s Petit Paris

We would like to thank all our friends that came to our Ballroom Social Sunday June 14 at Madeleine’s Petit Paris. This charming venue was full of enthusiastic new dancers as well as our old and dear friends. Bob Blank could not be present due to a medical emergency with  Amanda. We wish her speedy recovery.

Angie and Armando graciously accepted our offer to teach instead, took the floor and taught a hot Salsa lesson.  See here pictures of our event.

We will be again at Madeleine’s Petit Paris July 12. See here for further info.

Northvale dance May
At Madeleine’s Petit Paris last Sunday
Comments by Bob Blank

“We had a lot of fun at Premiere Entertainment’s first social in Northvale, NJ, this past Sunday. The ornate room (right – and notice the chandeliers!) was crowded with dancers and Bob not only taught a free Quickstep lesson but also gave away some free passes to our group classes. As usual, the music rocked, and Alan and Lika made sure that we were fed well, with not only the usual ‘social food’ of brownies and cakes, but also fresh fruit and gourmet coffee and tea (a big plus to Bob!)
The next event there is  Sunday  June 14″

COLONIAL MANOR

You can read all about it

Bob Blank and Lisa Freeman performed at the Colonial Manor Old Tappan

Comment by Bob Blank

“A large crowd enjoyed dancing, socializing and refreshments Sunday at the Ballroom and Latin Social in Old Tappan, NY on Sunday afternoon.  Bob and Lisa taught a lesson and performed an improvisational Hustle.  Prized raffled off included private lessons and free group classes. Click here for a few pics - more coming early this week.
AND MORE PICTURES HERE

We would like to thank again Bob Blank and Lisa Freeman for their hustle lesson and a breath taking performance (you could hear a pin drop) and every single dancer that came and danced non-stop. Our guests enjoyed delicious cakes and fresh fruit (healthy).  We were very happy to see new dancers joining in. The “word” about Ballroom Socials is very much getting around. The energy on dance floor was electric.  We are proud to say that DJ Alan Kohn received great compliments for his very enjoyable music including that dancer who requested Waltz Across Texas. That song was played twice that evening.!!
We will soon announce our next dance in the area.
Stay tuned.

Alan and Lika

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 1, 2009

We would like to give a big thanks to everybody that showed up on our Super Ballroom Day.
Diane and Gary Kurtz taught a hot salsa and great body rolls. Everybody had a very good time dancing. Almost everyone promised they would come to our upcoming event this Sunday February 8 at the Colonial Manor Old Tappan (details below). It was nice to see faces from our past Ballroom events that drove up from Orange County, Westchester,  Rockland County and NJ. That only shows that our Ballroom Socials have already a  life and identity of their own out there. We also received great suggestions regarding advertising possibilities of our events in the area of Duchess County. DJ Alan Kohn’s upbeat music made the evening even more enchanting.
Comment by Diane Kurtz: Alan played some hot dance music…Everyone was happy… my feet hurt so it’s a good sign of lots of dancing…There was music for everyone….We need something different around here..I have not been to a local dance where I have been happy with the music being played I just don’t return BUT I will attend this one for sure…Alan Knows his music he knows what dancer’s want…He is the dancer’s DJ..
PICTURES TO COME…..

WE WILL BE BACK MARCH 1 SAME VENUE, SAME TIME!
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 30, 2008

Premier Entertainment’s Ballroom Party rocked on Sunday; despite the bad weather and the heavy traffic associated with Thanksgiving (it took us over 2 hours to get over the Tappan Zee Bridge!) There were 82 people in the elegant Colonial Manor, dancing and enjoying themselves.  A large contingent of men made the ratio m/f (an important part of the equation for success at a social) and a youngish crowd (see pics) made it lively and fun. Bob Blank taught a swing combination to about 45 folks and then later performed with Angie Toth-Hanlon his student, to great applause (!).  Getting home was very easy – the traffic was light as usual at that time. Click here to see pictures...

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 8, 2009 COLONIAL MANOR
You can read all about it
in

“Sunday was the monthly dance in Old Tappan in Rockland County, at the Colonial Manor, and it was a fun dance in a very elegant setting.  The Manor is

a wedding and catering hall, which has a nice floor and a well run facility which is 100% dedicated to events, and the white tablecloths and nice spread make it feel
more like a high end event. Carlos and Lynn Sampleayo taught an Argentine Tango lesson (free) and I had some of my students there; Alan’s music was nice and the food rocked – a cheese board and desserts, and endless coffee and tea (much appreciated by me) as well as the open bar, where my student had elegant Cosmos (!). You can see pictures by clicking here. My apologies that there were not more pics – I was too busy dancing!
There are also pics of the Manor
in the picture package from November – check them out.”

SUNDAY, JANUARY 11, 2009
COLONIAL MANOR 4PM – 8PM

Sunday January 11 Colonial Manor – Ballroom Social
We would like to give a big warm thank you to each and every dancer that showed up despite the bitter cold last Sunday. A large crowd filled the elegant banquet room of the Colonial Manor in Old Tappan. Again the ratio was almost equal man and woman dancers. We also had male dance hosts who danced with all the ladies.  DJ Alan Kohn played as always stimulating and enchanting music. Everyone enjoyed the lesson by Jaye and Joe Galarneau. Among our guests were and Carlos and Lynn Sampelayo who will be back with us at our next Ballroom Social at the Colonial Manor February 8 and will teach Beginner Argentine Tango. We are looking forward to it! See here for pictures.

SUBJECT: Tuesday Night Brewster Dancing

FROM: Dee G. – WebWench – www.mutinyonthedancefloor.com

We have been dancing in Brewster, NY now for 3 weeks at the Putnam Valley Italian American Social Club.  Alan Kohn has been our DJ and Christopher Petre has been our instructor, both of them doing an AWESOME job!  The first week Christopher taught us one of his newest dances – I’M GONE which goes to the song “Echo” by Gorilla Zoe.  The lesson went quite well with our first night of dancing being a success.  The second week, Christopher taught a great “older” dance by Peter Metelnick called DREAMS OF MARTINA, again the lesson was well received, and we had even more dancers attend our second week!  This past Tuesday we again upped the number of dancer’s in attendance!  Christopher taught a dance we saw at the JG Line Dance Marathon in NC, the dance is by Ruben Luna called JUST THE TWO OF US, it goes to the song of the same name by Grover Washington, Jr.  The floor was packed, and everyone was up dancing and having a great time!  All in all, our first 3 weeks in Brewster have been a blast and we hope to keep the energy going!  We have had dancers coming from as far away as Kingston and Poughkeepsie, NY and as close as Danbury and Ridgefield, CT.  All requests have been played and all dances, both old and new are being danced.  The dance floor is large, the bar is open, the dancing is fun, and the people are friendly – what more could you ask for?!  So……looking for something to do on a Tuesday night?  Why not come out and join us in Brewster, NY!  Go to Christopher Petre’s website at http://www.mutinyonthedancefloor.com/home.htm for all the details.  Hope to see you there!

Comment by LYNDY (after grand opening at DUBLIN PUB, NEW HYDE PARK)

“So, how did the first night go?  Over 53 people with barely 2 weeks of advertising I think was pretty darn good!  At the most crowded, I saw 40 people on the dance floor with more room to spare. Alan did a great job keeping the dancers up and there’s plenty of room inside the club to move around.  In addition, management was happy with the turnout.
So, here it is…….this place is ours to make or break!
Prior to this past Wednesday, the Dublin Pub was closed on Wednesday nights.  No one can say to us that “we don’t mix with the regular crowd” or “we did better with the prior format.”  We just have to make it worthwhile for them to open their doors.  Ladies and Gentlemen, it doesn’t get any easier than this.
Although I taught the last Wednesday and this one coming, I know the plan is to have different guest instructors.  I intend to be there on Wednesdays whether I am teaching or not.  Why?…selfish reasons really…..because I wanna go dancing on Wednesday nights!

On another note, I want to thank those of you that came last Wednesday just to show a first night of support for the club and those who gave me support for my first dance lesson in Nassau County in “Many Moons.”  It was great to see some familiar faces I haven’t seen in a long time.

Please feel free to forward this to anyone you like and spread the word.  Thanks for the help, Lyndy

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL EVENT

By DJ ALAN KOHN

For a long time now, I have been meaning to discuss a topic that I am sure is on every one’s mind.
I have been involved in the Country Music and dancing scene since 1991. Since than, I have seen hundred of venues open and close their doors on the country community or out of business. There is currently no Country Radio station in the greater New York area This is a shame.

Only a few dance clubs exist in the Tri State area (Colorado Cafe, Cadillac Ranch, Illusions, and Montana West . If you haven’t noticed the price of gas and electricity and food has skyrocketed. Just when you think things are turning, Hurricane Ike pummels Texas and gas prices go up. Landlords are raising rents; there is no relief in sight.
There are many other locals venues that hold dance classes, or dance events, some weekly and some monthly. All of the above make it very hard on event directors running these events to stay in business.

The points that I am trying to make are as follows:

Only you, the dancer or country music listener can make a difference.
There are now a few groups of dancers in our community. This has come about in the last couple of years. The Beginner, the Intermediate Dancer that dances to country music as well as to non country music, the Progressive dancer, the Country Only Dancer and Pattern Partner/Swing Dancer.

The question is: Can we all get along and survive and maybe bring back the glorious days of dances as in the 90’ies? The answer is YES. As John Lennon once said: “Give Peace a Chance”.
Here are some suggestions that might not make the world a better place, but would definitely contribute to all events everywhere at all times.

Event Organizers: Try not to book events on the same day.

  • Start supporting venues. If you support somebody else’s event, maybe, just maybe, they will support yours.
  • Go to local events, these event directors/organizers are there for you week in and week out.
  • When at an event, don’t hog or demand requests. Everybody who pays at the door deserves to dance.
  • Always be considerate of beginners, they are the lifeblood to our community. You were also a beginner at one time.

Buy an extra water or soda, don’t go to the bathroom and fill your Poland Springs water bottle up. Not smart. Not nice.

Just a friendly thought:

Go to the movies and it costs you $10.00 and more, add popcorn and soda and it is already $20.00. You get to see a movie that lasts 90 to 120 minutes, whether you like it or not.
On the other hand; You go to a dancing event, spend about the same amount of money, and here’s what you get:
You meet new and old friends, you network, you laugh, you have fun and chill out whether you dance or not. You exercise; you socialize, and leave your frustrations from work on the dance floor.

Stop badmouthing other instructors and events.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL EVENT

God Bless you

Tuesday, June 22, 2009
Our rainy week ended with a 6 hour graduation party in a firehouse for 100 guests in NJ . See here pictures. Music varied from Hip Hop to Rap, to Classic Rock ending with the beautiful song of Southside Johnny“We’re having a Party”. We were exhausted, damp and rockin’. And yes, it rained again……
See also here picture of our own contribution to American Idol.   They’re taking their show on the road. You’ve seen them here first.
Rain more rain and more!  Is it summer yet?
We did not get the chance to dance with our Aussie friends after all due to a torrential rain last Thursday and also to all kinds of mishaps, van and limo breaking down, taxis not coming, parkways flooded,  wet, angry and cranky  dancers, and other misfortunes.  We lost track of our Aussie dancers between Mount Ararat (Noah’s Ark’s landing place in my beatiful homeland Turkey) and Knights of Columbus Blauvelt. They did promise though to be back next year, hopefully, on drier circumstances. See you all sooner Chris!
UPCOMING !
We’re very excited to announce these upcoming new events all over the TriState area with various venues as well as different instructors.  We have updated our calendar with all our events all the way till August 22. Check it out! We will sign off this week with our dance at Knights of Columbus New Hyde Park Long Island Sunday 5pm – 9pm. Don’t miss out and dance with us Sunday June 28 on Long Island.
We have hightlighted a few of our events coming up. For more information please go to our left column and surf in our Site Map.
